Will NFL & NFLPA Warm Up to CBD Product Use?

The US National Football League (NFL) has a history of hitting the brakes when debating the health effects of NFL Players at large. Although the league has come a long way from the original days of flimsy leather helmets and denials of concussions, there is still more to be done to protect the health of its players. Is the approval, nay promotion, of CBD Products in the works?

Consider the Will Smith movie Concussion, a true story where Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist, discovered a connection between the negative health effects of being an NFL Player and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). He championed changes in the NFL to lessen the negative impact on players’ brain health. Although both Dr. Omalu and the NFL deserve respect for taking the needed steps to help protect players’ health – more needs to be done.

The NFL currently ban’s the use of THC and some types of CBD products. Players, understandably, have lobbied the league to allow both the use of THC Products & CBD Products to help with Pain Management (case opioid pills are bad). The league says that more research is required.

Other concerns that were previously discussed include “it is hard to know the purity and [the] potency of these products.” To us, this sounds like a cop-out. It’s very easy to know the Purity & Potency of a product, the lab reports are easy to obtain.

Will the NFL finally warm up to the benefits of their players using CBD Products or will they just punt the ball down the field? We’re hopeful that they’ll throw a hail mary.
